For those reading Raffi’s story for the first time, on December 11th 2020 our son Rafael Verrocchi was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

Whilst the diagnosis broke our hearts, The Royal Children’s hospital and in particular the Kookaburra Cancer Team instantly provided our family with comfort and support as Raffi commenced his treatment. 

25 Months on from Raffi’s diagnosis, the physical and mental challenges Raffi faced during the initial phases of treatment certainly tested the resilience and strength of him and our family. 

Raffi lost his ability to walk, experienced countless number of hospitalisations and midnight runs into emergency. He endured the complications associated with an infected port, navigated two anaphylactic reactions and most noticeably, lost his iconic long locks.

Despite all the challenges, The Royal Children Hospital provided an environment that allows children like Raffi to face every hurdle with a smile and make the experience as fun and enjoyable as possible. 

It’s a special place, with very special people.
